So you have an MFA in writing? I was thinking of going on to do that but I'm not sure if it's worth it. What do you think? Did it help you in any way in your pursuits??

vwswrite asked this a while ago. Sometimes I start an answer to it, but then I discard it. If you want to teach writing, get an MFA at a school that will give you teaching experience. If you want to become a good writer, then it might help. For a few years you’ll take yourself seriously as a writer and so will other people. If you’re lucky there will be a guru on faculty and they will be inscrutable, but like a Zen Master he or she is trying to shake you free from logic and from ego, to teach the unteachable.
