I’m also reading a strange novel called The Romantic Movement by Alain de Botton, which, well, the rich shy de Botton, who wants us to turn to philosophy in our times of need, it turns out, has no conception of how human beings talk or what they do with their lives. The characters are frozen-pizza versions of humans. (“What are you going to wear to the party?” “Grow up, Suzy.” <—-actual dialogue! By adult characters!) BUT its mix of fiction and philosophy IS intriguing. A bit like Kundera. I see now why some people loathe de Botton, and I might be joining that camp. New Dylan tomorrow.
